AI integration

AI integration — connecting an AI model to the systems a business already runs, so it does work inside them instead of in a separate chat window.

What it is, concretely

A chatbot on its own is a very capable stranger. It knows a great deal in general and nothing about your customers, your calendar, your catalog or your prices. Integration is the work of giving it controlled access to those things — reading from the CRM, drafting into the inbox, checking the booking system — and deciding what it is allowed to do with each.

In practice, most of the job is not the model. It is permissions, data mapping, error handling, logging, and a written answer to the question “what happens when it’s wrong?”

How it differs from buying an AI tool

A tool is a product someone else designed for an average customer. Integration starts from how work actually moves through one business and fits the model into the gaps. The first is faster to start. The second is what usually survives month three.

A useful test for any proposal: can the person selling it name the system of record the model reads from, and the one it writes to? If not, what is being sold is a demo.
